Tournament in memory of Alekhin ended in St. Petersburg

May 1 ended the tournament in memory of the outstanding Russian chess player Alexander Alekhin, held from April 20 first in Paris, then in St. Petersburg.

Tournament in memory of Alekhin ended in St. PetersburgThe tournament of two museums (in France, the memorial Alekhina received the Louvre, in Russia - the Mikhailovsky Castle of the Russian Museum) gave chess lovers a lot of exciting moments.

Even the last days of the championship constantly made changes to the position of the players. And if, for example, after the seventh round, two were in the lead: Maxim Vashier-Lagrave and Boris Gelfand, then in the eighth round only the Israeli grandmaster remained the leader - the champion of France lost to Russian Nikita Vityugov (this was the first loss of Washier-Lagrava and the only victory of our grandmaster) .

But the last game put everything in its place. And much here was decided by another loss of Vachier-Lagrava: this time to Levon Aronian.

Results of the Alekhin Memorial

According to the results of 9 rounds, the grandmaster from Armenia Levon Aronian won the tournament with a score of 5.5 points, ahead of his closest rival in additional indicators. The second and third places are for Boris Gelfand (5.5 points) and Viswanathan Anand (5 points).

Recall that the additional indicators for which the seats were allocated with equal points were:

    - a greater number of games played by black;
    - a greater number of victories;
    - the result of a personal meeting;
    - Coya and Sonneborn-Berger coefficients.

Fortune did not smile at our athletes in the Alekhin memorial: Nikita Vitiugov with 4.5 points was only in fifth place, Vladimir Kramnik with the same result - in seventh place. Peter Svidler, without winning a single game and gaining only 3 points, became the tenth.

Michael Adams (4th place), Laurent Fressinet (6th place) and Maxim Vashier-Lagrave (8th place) scored 4.5 points, Ding Liren (9th place) - 3.5.
