You have a boy, or How to reduce the tax by adopting a gay partner

Two elderly men living together in love and loyalty for about 45 years, decided to think about what will happen after the death of one of them. And they understood that the remainder would have to pay a 15% real estate tax to the treasury upon registration of the inheritance. The fact is that same-sex civil partnerships in Pennsylvania - this is where this couple lives - have not yet been officially recognized.

You have a boy, or How to reduce the tax by adopting a gay partner73-year-old Gregory and 65-year-old John did not intend to generously replenish the treasury of the state that tramples on the rights of sexual minorities, and therefore found a very original way to reduce the tax by almost four times - the younger adopted the older one.

“Why not the other way around?” You ask. This, additional, strangeness of the decision of men is easily explained: the 95-year-old father of the younger partner was alive, and therefore Gregory could not adopt him. To do this, it was necessary to deprive the parental rights of the legitimate father of John! Gregory's parents died long ago, and on this side there were no obstacles.

Now that the spouses have become father and son, the amount of the inheritance tax for any of them will be reduced to 4%!

Having completed the signing of the necessary documents, the judge, turning to the newly-made father with a smile, said: “Congratulations, you have a boy!”.

Note, however, that it was quite possible that the men only had to wait a bit: on July 2, it became known that Brian Sims, a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, expressed his intention to submit a draft law on legalizing same-sex marriage to state legislators. In an interview with Philadelphia Weekly, Sims said that many of his colleagues are ready to vote for this bill without delay.
